Why this dataset matters

This mosaic brings together sounding surveys, satellite-derived estimates and quality-controlled partner data into one continuous depth surface. It is designed for regional interpretation: identifying shelf breaks, sedimentary patterns and areas where the seafloor has changed between surveys.

Use it as a consistent spatial frame for coastal planning, habitat interpretation and exploratory modelling. The mosaic is not a navigational chart and should not be used for vessel safety or engineering decisions without checking the source survey.

Method

Input surveys were reprojected to geographic coordinates, checked for vertical datum compatibility and resampled to a 30 m output grid. Where multiple observations overlap, the most recent quality-controlled surface is preferred. The accompanying quality layer records the number of contributing surveys and the age of the best available observation.

Field guide

Field Description
depth_m Estimated depth in metres below chart datum.
survey_year Year of the source surface used at each cell.
source_count Number of source observations contributing to the cell.
quality_flag Review status for the local surface.

Known limitations

The resolution is spatially consistent, but confidence is not. Intertidal areas and regions with sparse source coverage should be interpreted with the quality layer switched on. See the version notes in the download package for changes from v2.0.

方法

已知局限
